Born into a musical/theatrical family whose grandfather played trumpet with his own 16 piece orchestra and got his first break through his granduncle, Augustus "Gussie" Shubert, who brought the prominent "Shubert Theatre" from Germany to New York. Diane's grandpa opened for such renowned bands such as Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman, and went on tour with his orchestra, which included several family members. After retreating to his farmland in New Jersey to raise his family, Diane's father was brought up under the musical environment and became a saxophonist as well as singer/whistler. Diane's mother also was talented and acquired notoriety as a skater and dancer, and after marrying Diane's father, the road ahead for
Diane became a multi-theatrical one.

Growing up in the Motown Era, Diane was particularly inspired by such artists as Diana Ross and The Supremes, The Shirelles, and a host of other Motown artists which became a major influence on her singing and dance techniques. Not long after graduation, Diane signed up with a local talent agency to audition and perform in local clubs, including the acclaimed "Meadowbrook" in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, as well as a number of other clubs in and around the area. Soon after, Diane gravitated towards the New York music scene and met many famous musicians and artists such as The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin (where she made a cameo appearance in their "The Song Remains the Same" film), as well as session musicians and local bands, and became actively involved as a backup singer and dancer with the groups Kingdom and Bulletproof Blues Band, and performed with them at all of the popular clubs in Manhattan, during which time Diane's songwriting began to blossom. While "networking" in the New York music scene, she met producer/engineer, Robert Musso, originator of the "scratch" recording and other progressive recordings, and expressed interest in working with her on a double version of "For Your Love To Love Me" (one in hi-tech pop and the other in slow dance at Diane's suggestion) recorded at Atlantic Recording Studios. After coming close to a "dance hit" through the record pool's efforts in submitting it to Polygram, and appearing on MTV, Diane became more inspired to write dance/pop songs and continued to work on new recordings with Robert which were sent to various record companies around the world. Through sparks of interest with Complete Records, a subsidiary of Polygram in Nashville, conferences with MTV host, and Hollywood's Scotti Bros. Records inviting her to their Los Angeles based studio as well as attend the Grammy Awards, Diane continued to enhance her style and work on new songs in pursuit of her goal as a successful singer/songwriter.

During one of her networking events, Diane met Chris Spedding at a popular local downtown club who was seeking to work with new artists and became interested in remixing and producing the hi-techno pop recordings to lean more towards a "new wave pop" style to further enhance Diane's voice and style.  During production, Chris expressed interest in Diane covering one of his songs entitled "Flirt" (contained on her "New Wave EP"), and working with him on other songs between recording sessions, since Chris liked her melodies.

As a result of Diane working with Chris, her songwriting became more diverse and developed more into a rock/pop style, of which songs are as contained in her LP's entitled "You're Everything To Me", and in her latest "Eclectic" LP.  In addition, Diane did backing vocals with Chris' band featuring Anton Fig (currently with Paul Schaffer Band on Letterman), Tony Garnier (currently with Bob Dylan) and Uptown Horns, as well as backing vocals on Chris' album "Enemy Within", and backing vocals during Chris' production of the soundtrack recording of the
film "Hollywood Vice Squad" (during the bus chase scene).  Chris has played on many famous artists albums ranging from Elton John's "Madman Across The Water", Brian Ferry's Roxy Music "Avalon", The Who's, Roger Daltry, Marianne Faithful, Ry Cooder, Tom Waite, and a host of other famous artists and musicians, as well as record and
tour with rockabilly artist Robert Gordon, not to mention Chris' own albums and with his band earlier on "The Sharks".

Working with Chris has been a remarkable period of growth for Diane as well as lay the foundation for her songwriting technique paving the road ahead to work with other arrangers and producers, such as Jill Wisoff, formerly with "Stepping Razor" who recently composed the musical scoring for Sundance Film Festival's "Welcome to the
Dollhouse" wherein Chris also collaborated for his work with the "Con Artists".   Initially, Jill directed Diane towards arranger/producer, Steve Skinner, currently co-producer of "Rent" and producer of Southside Johnny's, Taylor Dayne's hit album and various other
artists albums, who brought out another dimension of Diane's music as heard on the "You're Everything To Me" LP, and Diane's current LP entitled "Eclectic" contains a variety of songs as well as combining all of the arrangers and producers.  For instance, Jill Wisoff arranged and produced "One Night Stand", originally arranged by Steve
Skinner, into a dance/pop style, as well as Diane's earlier slow dance version of "For Your Love To Love Me" into a "downtown diva" type sound, and Chris Spedding's original arrangements of "Love Flame" and "Wandering Love" are arranged and produced by Steve Skinner.  Other Steve Skinner arrangements and productions contained the new LP "Eclectic" are "Weeping Heart", and a dance songentitled "Out Here In LA" written by Al Basi and Steve Skinner and recorded at Cassette City.  A "Diane Murray--Compilation LP" is also available. All recordings are available on CD and cassette.  For information on how to order and pricing, click on "Lyrics/Pics".
